  2. Building Confidence Through Effective Monitoring

Gave a presentation at the 22nd North West meeting of the ANME on “Building Confidence Through Effective Monitoring” highlighting our use of Zabbix and how it’s changed the way we work as a school.

  3. Migrating VMWare to Hyper-V

I migrated all of our VMWare VMs over to HyperV, moving them onto a SAN and setting up Failover Clustering.

Due to the need to power off the VMs during the transfer this took a lot of co-ordination with staff to minimise the disruption caused.

Migrating to HyperV allowed us to leverage the existing skills of the team both with more HyperV experience and Windows management in general.

  4. Building a new Domain

I built a new domain for a school on new hardware. This new domain is linked to Azure AD for user synchronisation and auto sign in. OneDrive is synced and configured automatically for all staff.

This domain is the product of a lot of consultation with the school to ensure that the staff and pupils are getting the most they can out of the computers.

Staff where kept informed through out the whole process ensuring that access to systems and documents where not interrupted and everyone knew where to find resources after the work was completed.

Following the work Staff have given great feedback on how well the whole school IT is working now.

  5. A whole new network

Following a couple of months of consultation, design, and development I deployed a whole new switch stack, Windows Server, HyperV environment and domain. Bringing the schools network from a dangerously out of date Server 2003 DC/File Server to a fully virtualised Server 2019 setup.

    A FUll stack

  6. Built a hosting system

Designed, Built, and Deployed a new hosting system for websites at Ed-IT Solutions.

I created an edge server to handle all incoming requests and proxy them to the correct backend server. A single database server accessible to all backends. All running on a private network in Digital Oceans’ data centre.

  7. Released WP-Camo

Developed and Released WP-Camo a WordPress plugin for serving off-domain images without risking mixed content errors.

Extremely useful for the schools we work with as social media sites are blocked in school and resulted in broken images on their websites.

  8. Building a PAC File system

I built a PAC file system for the schools that Ed-IT Solutions supports.

Built using Jekyll it uses a selection of templates to output a PAC file for each school, ensuring they get the best configuration for them.

More information can be found in this article.

  9. First version of SODB

I released the first version of SODB a utility class that allows you to search, sort and filter data with no external dependencies.
